Training FAQs
Welcome to Baylor and I like the way you think! Most of our laboratory related safety courses are offered within SciShield. If you have already met with an EHS representative, you should have been given a crash course in SciShield, set up your lab, and populated lab activities, staff, equipment, and identified materials used within the lab. Based on the activities/job duties you identified in the initial lab set-up, materials you’ll be working with, and waste that may be generated, SciShield will automatically ping you for Training.
No worries! EHS has a quick and easy to use, step-by-step guidance document (with pictures) to walk you through the entire process. Using the SciShield Quick Guide-Lab Set Up, and the SciShield Quick Guide- Laboratory Management you and your lab staff will be receiving training notifications almost immediately.
I’m glad you asked! Training frequency varies depending on the type of training needed. For example, if your research includes materials that are potentially infectious, including human blood, body fluids, tissue, cell lines, animals infected with human pathogens, mammalian viruses, biological toxins, and/or recombinant DNA, OSHA mandates annual training.
If you have received a training delinquency notice from SciShield, you can either click on the link provided and it will direct you to your delinquent course within SciShield. You may also access any/all EHS Laboratory Safety Training courses through the SciShield Training Course Directory.
Yes! EHS provides online training for various biosafety/lab safety topics and we understand that you may have already completed training elsewhere. Please contact the BSO at wyndi_klement@baylor.edu so that we can upload your certifications into your training profile. Currently, only EHS staff are authorized to upload and edit your training status within SciShield.
